Plug-ins FAQ
There are a LOT of questions out there. This should take care of a few of them. You might also want to try the Winamp Forums for more help and info.
1) What's taking so long for my plug-in to get published? Should I resubmit it?
We review plug-ins in the order that they are received. The problem is that there are a lot of people out there making plug-ins and only a few (most of the time, just one) of us here to review them. The backlog can get quite deep at times. Please be patient with us and don't resubmit in the hope of getting it there faster. That only makes the wait longer for those behind you in the queue.
2) How does your rating system work?
This is what our resident review guru had to say:
5 stars: These plug-ins have to have the goods. Fully functional, no crashing your system or frustrating the hell out of Winamp usage, must be something useful...or very entertaining...basically, something that I would completely recommend that all Winamp users should have.
4 stars: Well...these ones are usually very tight...but, something is either a little messy, or their usefulness isn't exactly all that apparent.... or, the interface or design could use some spicing up, or there is some configuration option that I really feel should be included but is missing.
3 stars: A 3 star plug-in is still a good and solid plug-in...but that, as in the 4 star, something is either missing or the usage isn't really all that apparent, etc.... just a little more critical or drastic than the 4 stars. Definitely, these ones have the potential to be cleaned up or made more dynamic or useful.
2 stars: These ones are usually either not very useful, or have unavoidable bugginess, or just look like shite...or something like that. Some of these actually function...but, seem kinda half-assed...like the author could have just taken the time to add a particular function (something important to the performance of the plug-in itself) ...but, didn't. Also, given to basic and not very stimulating unfunky AVS presets.
1 star: Actually, I haven't come across too many of these... with plug-ins, I usually like to give people credit for actually trying and taking the time out to program something.
0 stars: I don't really see how or where I would use a 0 rating for a plug-in. I mean...it would really have to be screwed up. And if it's that screwed up...(meaning it messes your system up very bad and all that) I'll just email the author and remove the hideous thing from our site.
3) Where do I go to submit my plug-in?
You can find the guidelines for submitting plug-ins here:
http://www.winamp.com/development/plugins-submit
4) I don't know how to submit a plug-in. Will you do it for me?
No. Sadly, we no longer have access to the resource database. So even if you emailed us your plug-in, there isn't much we can do for you.
5) Can I make money with my plug-in?
Sure, plug-ins are your own creation and if people out there are willing to pay you for your work, then why not? Just don't blame us if they call you a capitalist pig dog.
6) Can I submit beta versions of my plug-ins?
No problem. Just make sure to label it as such in the description. Remember that you can always resubmit your resources through our site at any time.
7) Can I change my plug-in after I submit it?
Same as above, you can resubmit your resources anytime.
